CORPORATE HISTORY

Health Care Options, Inc., a leader in the home health care services, was chartered as a Louisiana corporation in October of 1986.  The founders of the corporation are Annette E. Austin and Howard Douglas Austin.

            Mrs. Austin, an LSU Executive MBA, was an honors graduate at the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.  Prior to relocating to Baton Rouge in 1983, she worked at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Mississippi Baptist Medical Center, and Albemarle Health Care Center.  Mrs. Austin served as Director of Nursing for Americare Health Services before the opening of Health Care Options.  Currently, Mrs. Austin serves as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Health Care Options.

            Health Care Options, originally housed in the Austin’s residence, had a total of four (4) employees.  Increased growth necessitated moving into larger quarters and, in 1987, the move was made to Greenwell Springs and Morgan Road.  On the move once again in 1988 due to expansion, the staff relocated to the Greenwell Springs Road office.  By 1991, increased expansion and the addition of extra personnel once again resulted in a relocation to the current Sullivan Road location, which is considered the Corporate Headquarters.

            Branch offices were the next phase for this fast-growing corporation.  An office in Gonzales, Louisiana, opened in May of 1989.  Shortly thereafter, the Plaquemine, Louisiana, office followed in October 1990, while the newest branch office in Lafayette, Louisiana, opened in October 1993.  An additional affiliate, “Choices for Children” started in 1993 in Jackson, Mississippi, as an early periodic screening clinic.  “Choices Dental Services” followed in 2001.  In May of 2002, Health Care Options Personal Care Services, Inc. was licensed.  Health Care Options Hospice, Inc. was licensed shortly thereafter in May of 2003.

            Today, Health Care Options is a corporation employing over 125 employees dedicated to the delivery of caring, competent, and compassionate services within the states of Louisiana and Mississippi.  Our employees, some of the best in the health care profession, endeavor to meet the needs of our clients and patients and go beyond the customary services of the usual home health care agency.
